Male Hypomel II

This animal was born in 1996 and is the last surviving offspring of my original two heterozygous animals that started this line. He has fathered many of the hypo animals I’ve sold to customers. He sired a clutch of 100% hypomelanistic animals with his hypomelanistic sibling in 2004, produced two anerythristic female offspring when bred to an anery in 2006, and sired three new lines of heterozygous animals when bred to three unrelated females in 2007. What a great snake this guy is!

Het Male I

This animal is the result of a breeding loan I did with the East Bay Vivarium in 2001. The sire of his clutch was a hypomelanistic male and the dam was a nice red female that was owned by the vivarium. In 2007, I hope to pair him with an unrelated heterozygous female. As far as I know, this will be the first time two unrelated heterozygous animals will be paired.

Het Male II

The sire to this animal is Male Hypomel II. The dam is an animal I got from Bill Gillingham as a baby around 1994. He was born in 2003. I am hoping to cross him with the unrelated Het female I in 2007. I really love the high contrast of this animal.

Het Female I

This animal is a sibling to Het Male I. In 2005, she was paired with her uncle and she produced a clutch of 15 babies with a fairly even mix of males and females, heterozygous and hypomelanistic animals. I hope to pair her up with het male II in 2007.

Het Female II

This is a sibling to Het male II. Right now, she is feeding and growing in preparation for her first breeding in 2007. She will be paired with Het Male I as a part of my outcrossing project.

I purchased “Tampa” in the summer of 2006. I don’t know much about her background. The gentleman who I bought her from said she was captive bred in 2004. This is hard for me to believe because of her immense size. She’s close to 6 feet long and weighs in at almost 9 lbs. She’s the biggest rainbow boa I’ve ever seen! I expect her to be a great breeder and will pair her up with Male Hypomel II in the 2006-2007 season. She’s going to be a key part of my hypomelanistic outcross project. She’s unrelated to any of my animals and all of her babies will be heterozygous for hypomelanism.

“Mars” is a very special Hypomelanistic male. He was born in 2006 as part of a very small clutch of just three animals. He is the first hypomelanistic animal to be produced by crossing two distinct heterozygous lines. His father is Sherman, brother to Ruby and to many other het animals involved in hypo breeding projects. Mars’ mother is Blazing Saddles. Her mother was completely unrelated to any of the other animals in my collection.

“Minerva” is the result of a cross between Hypomel Male II and the beautiful Ruby. She has the distiction of being one of the most beautiful hypos I’ve ever seen. Her firey orange background accentuates the dark brown outlines which are not usually so pronounced on hypos. I plan on pairing her up with Mars in 2009 or 2010.

“Cocoa” is a very rare snake indeed. First of all, she was produced as part of my ghost project with Robert Seib of Eastern Indigos. We bred my Hypo Male II to one of Robert’s anery females expecting to get normal-looking animals who were double-heterozygous for both hypomelanism and anerythrism. To our surprise, the clutch contained two anery females. Not only is Cocoa an anery, she is also heterozygous for hypomelanism. She’s a beautiful snake with a bright future. She will either be paired up with her father or with a double-het male from another breeding to further the ghost project.

“Pastella” is the offspring of the beautiful and prolific Ruby. Pastella’s father is the now deceased Hypomel Male I, who was among my original hypo offspring. She shows a more yellow coloration charachteristic of the original founder hypo animals.
